The last two weeks I didn`t manage to go to the forest as often as I wanted. Work, preparing the garden and sunny hammock-days got in the way.
I made two trips and in both places the ground was still pretty much frozen. The first trip went to a sunny slope where I earlier have found lots of vehicle- and equipment parts.
Thousands of busy and grumpy ants kept me moving constantly, only thanks to the easy sandy conditions did I have time to dig on signals before the tiny workers swarmed me.
Some of the signals I just had to give up because of the ice, but after a couple of hours my pockets were heavy with smaller bits and I was carrying around the spring from a 2cm Flak magazine. I had also picked up a few signal flares and k98 casings.
From the iron signals I dug, I ended up with some k98 rifle parts, a rusted Gr.W.34 8cm mortar firing pin and a Luger P08 breechblock. So now I am dreaming about finding the rest of the P08. Later in the evening I recieved reports about ant observations around in the house, i.e inside the kitchen cabinet.

A week later I had become restless again so I decided to get the detector ready and head out to the woods to do some searching.
It was a very nice day and from early morning the temps were well above +20 Celsius. I parked the car and the smell from the warm pine forest was almost overwhelming. I drank some water and packed the jacket and some food into the backpack.
I had to give up on a couple of signals because of ice but I was lucky to find a small spill of relics just centimeters below the surface. It was a mix of personal effects such as toothcream, skin cream, perfume, lighters, uniform buttons, small clasps etc. Lots of small and flat bakelite looking bits didnt make any sense for a while before I found one part that showed that they were pieces of a broken LP record.
I dug out parts of stoves crafted from horseshoes and fuel barrels, and one lucky signal was a pair of german tent pegs. After four hours strolling around the forest and digging in the shrubberies I began to realize that not wearing a jacket had been a mistake.
First of all my neck was burnt to crisp by the sun, and then my arms.. they were kinda pulsating and glowing from tons of tiny cuts, scratches and insect bites.
I had had enough for one day, but just as that thought ran through my head I had another good signal from the old detector. Another nice little dump of relics was partly frozen. It was also wet and muddy so I had to be very careful not to miss any good bits. Soon I found round muddy shapes. Coins! Several of them.
I removed a little bit more of the top soil and out fell a small EKM pouch, but instead of having the ID tag inside it was filled with coins, German and Finnish ones.
A nice pioneer axe and an even nicer looking first world war Göffel/spork came with us home as well.
It has been a week since the last trip now, so I am thinking to go back and continue with that little dump tomorrow as Im sure it must have thawed more by now. I am hoping the missing EKM is there waiting to be found.
Thanks for reading, and enjoy your week :)
