Late last night I finally put the last dot of paint on this diorama that has cluttered my workbench since autumn. It is called "Frontkjemper" (`front fighter`) which refers to the scandinavians who volunteered to fight in the Waffen-SS, and it is in scale 1/35 which makes it ca 47 cm x 28 cm.
Many of the Norwegian volunteers spent their contracted time in the trenches surrounding Leningrad. That is where I imagined this scene taking place. The diorama is showing a frontline bunker where soldiers lived for weeks and months, and a few meters up ahead the frontline with two firing positions. The soldiers by the bunker are ribbing each other while smoking and filling their pockets with ammo.
In the trench line two officers are visiting the MG position, getting an overview of the frontline and the situation.
On the base I attached a replica of a Frontkjemper badge, an award given to norwegian volunteers.
